Clarifying Note: Ever been in a place where you're not familiar with the customs? A very elegant table with 5 spoons, 10 forks and 6 glasses in front of you and you keep glancing around for cues on how to deal with your food? Well, this is my very first A to Z challenge and I feel just like that. When my dwarves came back from visiting dozens of blogs yesterday, they brought to my attention the fact everyone explained what could be expected from their posts this month. I didn't. Yesterday I skipped formalities and just started. I presumed your minds were all connected to this dragon's so you were aware what the master plan was since the moment I concocted it. Don't know where I read humans can do that with red dragons.
Now to those of you who haven't developed such a telepathic connection with me, Chronicles of the Dragon Cave from A to Z are about the life in the Dragon Cave while we prepared ourselves for this challenge. Through these bits, you'll learn more about me, my lair, my muses and some of my most relevant dwarves. I hope you enjoy. By the end, we might try that telepathic connection again.
"Carmelita, why are you covering the walls with all those welcome signs?" Pancholin asked, cloth and polisher in hand.
"The master told me multiple bloggers are coming for the A to Z Challenge and I want them to feel our hospitality." Carmelita hung a picture of the Dwarf Cheering Squad with a welcoming legend.
The idea of strangers in the cave unsettled Pancholin. "Bloggers? What bloggers? When is this happening? I didn't see that memo!" He started to polish the closest metal at hand.
Carmelita frowned and crashed a smiley face sign on his head. "My breast plates don't need polishing. How many times do I have to tell you?" She grabbed the rest of the signs and strode away. "Fireballs! Bloggers might be here already."
With the sign as a collar, Pancholin glanced about as if looking for ghosts. Nerves got the best of him. The circling motion of his hand was instinctive. "B-bloggers? if you are really here, manifest yourselves...nicely."
The Begonia Bribe Cover Reveal
Today the fireworks at the Cave are due to the cover reveal of Alyse Carlson's book: The Begonia Bribe. We are always happy to be part of this kind of parties. Congratulations, Alyse! The Begonia Bribe: 2nd in the Garden Society Cozy Mystery series by Alyse Carlson (aka: Hart Johnson)
Roanoke, Virginia, is home to some of the country’s most exquisite gardens, and it’s Camellia Harris’s job to promote them. But when a pint-sized beauty contest comes to town, someone decides to deliver a final judgment …
A beauty pageant for little girls—the Little Miss Begonia Pageant—has decided to hold their event in a Roanoke park. Camellia is called in to help deal with the botanical details, the cute contestants, and their catty mothers. She soon realizes that the drama onstage is nothing compared to the judges row. There’s jealousy, betrayal, and a love triangle involving local newsman—and known lothario—Telly Stevens. And a mysterious saboteur is trying to stop the pageant from happening at all.
But the drama turns deadly when Stevens is found dead, poisoned by some sort of plant. With a full flowerbed of potential suspects, Cam needs to dig through the evidence to uproot a killer with a deadly green thumb.
Congrats to Hart.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece. It has a medieval feel to it. I think it would be hard to describe bloggers to people of long ago.
Hello, I am a blogger. I promise I don't bite.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Hart. Sounds like a neat mysterious serious :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and the dragon's breast plates are shimmering nicely!
Congratulations to Hart and her cover reveal! I like the quote "Murder is never pretty" printed on a really pretty cover. Nice. (:

ReplyDeleteThe cave is a lovely example of what determined dwarfs can do when they have to. ;)
Your site is gorgeous and a great example of how to express a writer's voice visually. Love it!
I love the idea of an A to Z blog! Telepathy aside, I think you've written a very entertaining post! I'm sure the dwarfs have done an admirable cleaning job, breastplates included!

Room for one more blogger in the cave? Mind if I try on the breastplate? I'm rather fond of armor. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy A to Z'ing! And congrats to Hart! Wish I'd thought of fireworks.
Great website, blitz buddy! Best of luck to you!
ReplyDeleteMany bloggers don't define their A to Z posts ahead of time. *slaps Pancholin's wandering hands* You've made it quite cozy here in the dragon cave!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Hart. :)
You're doing just fine. This is actually the first year I've done a theme.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had found you before, I love dragons, all kinds of dragons. I am here because of the blitz, but I will stay to read about a dragon. Like the sound of the story The Begonia Bribe.
ReplyDeleteJO ON FOOD, MY TRAVELS AND A SCENT OF CHOCOLATE
Wonderful post! It's good to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI love the dragon cave!! Blog blitz and A-Z? You are one lucky Dragon :)
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, I did the same thing. I'm thinking maybe I should put something on the top of my blog explaining my theme, just so people know.
ReplyDeleteLOL. I LOVE the dwarves. They're adorable--which is probably not what you want to hear, but coming from a female that should be acceptable. Loving the meme, and I'll have to pop back in and read it all. Awesomesauce!
ReplyDeleteBlistering Barnacles! You are in the process of being blitzed by a batch of B-Bloggers about to bear down, like a BOMB!
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!
(Once again, I love your pyrotechnical display! It lights up everything!)
Ha ha. Polishing the breast plates :) Love it. Happy blog blitz!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for Hart :)

Also, thanks for your kindness to DL which has prompted this BLITZ! So it was a perfect day to hang a welcome banner, because you're going to have more than you expected...

ReplyDeleteHello from the Blitz! And from A to Z!
ReplyDeleteCute story, Al. Best of luck to Alyse with The Begonia Bribe.
ReplyDeleteTerrific post—somehow it seems right to have breast plates and the Watery Tart's (aka Alyse Carlson's) cover reveal next to one another. Well played, Father Dragon! Congrats on your blitzing and to Hart on the smashing THE BEGONIA BRIBE cover.
ReplyDelete~VR Barkowski
Interesting that your (I'm guessing) real name "Al Diaz" is part of Mr. VZ's real name. Anyhoo - you've been blitzed!

ReplyDeleteCool Cover. Hi, I am a new follower from the A to Z challenge and I am also visiting from D.L. 's Blog Blitz. This is my first time entering the dragon cave. I am very glad to be here.

As a first timer to this A to Z thing, I do feel like I am in a cave. The challenge will probably be halfway over before I feel like I really KNOW what I am doing... hahaha. Good thing we have dragons to throw some fire (aka light) on things.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blog Blitz, Al!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the welcome banner, so nice of the Dwarf Squad to do that for us. It's always very welcoming here at the Cave.
The Begonia Bribe sounds intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI agree the Julie - the banner is great!
Pleasure to meet you, Al Diaz!
You've been blitzed! Nice blog. I love the fire in the background.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Happy Blog Blitz day - well deserved choice!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful banner Father Dragon! Congrats on being blitzed! What a great idea!

Happy Blog Blitz. I loved your comparison between being in a fancy dancy restaurant and the a-z challenge, it made me giggle.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the challenge.
Love the bit about not feeding the dwarves on the banner. And the cover on THE BEGONIA BRIBE is so pretty. Very creative blog!
ReplyDeleteWonderfully entertaining, and beautiful cover!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the challenge. Everyone approaches it differently!

ReplyDeleteWhat a cute kitty on the cover. I used to have a calico.

Thank you Dragon Father for explaining your plan of action and not relying on the telepathic connection. I enjoyed my visit to the dragon cave today and felt like a welcomed blogger for sure. God bless, Maria from Delight Directed Living
ReplyDeleteHa! I love that your plan of action was shared on day two. Thanks for the book rec! ;)
ReplyDeleteThose pesky bloggers without breast plates! So unpredictable. Enjoyed reading your post.
ReplyDeleteA2Z Mommy And What’s In between

"Please don't feed the dwarves." You never fail to crack me up.
ReplyDeleteLove the Dwarf Cheer Squad=) Stopping by for the Blitz and A to Z=) I'm a friendly blogger, so don't fear;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Day 2 of A to Z! I liked your realization that many other bloggers seemed to have planned everything out. Never fear, Dragon--you're already dancing the right steps at this party.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on making the blitz list! I think dragons are awesome. My favorite is Mr. Dragon from the old Mac game The Manhole.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Al! I love the splash you've made in this blogging community. It's so great to get to know you. And love your blog--and soooo impressed you're doing the A-Z. You're so much braver than I!
ReplyDelete:D
The cave looks awesome! And I share your telepathy, so I get it. (And I didn't explain what the A-Z was either...well, not really.)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry too much about not introducing what your A-Z challenge was about. The first time I did it I had no theme. It's one of those things which, as long as you're doing it, you can't do wrong.
ReplyDeleteNice cover. You've been blitzed!
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that some people announce themselves and some just start. Either is good, I think, but your "about" addition made me chuckle. I might be willing to share the telepathy later...

Happy Blitz Day!! Awesome welcome banner! :)
ReplyDeleteExplaining bloggers to a medieval audience... What? Forsooth! Why the bloggers, they are no more than bards with very fast horses. Supremely fast horses. But how bards, who cannot afford such supreme transport acquired so many speedy steeds is beyond this discussion. Accept it. Bards. With very express transport. Bards who don't sing very well. But they can write. No, not monks. Bards.
ReplyDeleteBards on a Blitz. Yes, it's only ten at night here in California, so you're getting Blitzed anew. Believe it.
Wow- this is ever so interesting. Dragons always fascinate me!
ReplyDeleteWell Newbe you are off to a great start. Going to have to book mark you and check back to see how this story progress. I love a good dragon story.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the A-Z - liked the welcome banner too. Nice touch.
Blessings, Margot
As a newbie at this and blogging I have to say today has been amazing. I logged on this morning to quit the challenge because I decided it was way too challenging for me. After a good 6 hours I'm still here, still reading, managed two of my own posts so now I'm level pegging at 'C' with most others and I don't want to stop. The fact that my passion is craft makes me a bit of a loner, but I'm loving what everyone else writes about. All these stories have made my sad day a happy day. Thank You.
ReplyDeletehehe, I think most of us assumed that was your theme :)
ReplyDeleteI like what you did with the cover of Alyse's book.
Oi I'm a little late living on a night time schedule, but happy Blitz Day!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being blitz, sorry I'm late.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Oh half the fun is figuring out if there is a theme and what it is or if it's random!
ReplyDeleteA day late and a dollar short, I missed the blog blitz on the dragons cave!
ReplyDeleteHappy A to Z Father Dragon!
Also a day late, but better that then never! This is the blitz that keeps on giving.
ReplyDeleteAll the best for the A to Z Father Dragon. You have set the stage so well for the rest of the Challenge.
Sounds like an intriguing series!!!! Had to blitz you - a day behind for that my sincerest apologies. So glad to have discovered your site! Have a lovely week ;)
ReplyDeleteDude, you introduced your A to Z theme in The Big Reveal blog hop, remember? I've seen lots of folks (who didn't do the big reveal) just start in with "A" and no explanation. I did learn one thing from Jamie of Mithril Wisdom (I'm pretty sure I got this from Jamie's blog) last year: he added to the top of his blog a notice that he was participating in A to Z for the month of April and what his theme was. I liked that idea so much, I did the same for my blog this year.
ReplyDeleteSome Dark Romantic
Hello! I'm sorry that I am sooooo late for the Blog Blitz. Back problems kept me away from the computer for too long. Looks like you had a LOT of awesome bloggers stop by to surprise you.
ReplyDeleteIt seems I never visited for the Blog Blitz, so here I am visiting way after the fact ;) It's the thought that counts, right?? And I visit you quite regularly anyway :D
ReplyDelete
