The Daily Dragon - Issue No. 7

EXTRA, EXTRA! The last fire dragon of the blogsphere is still alive and kicking in spite of the best efforts of the virus to take him down.

After seven days of fight, the virus sneaked by the Dragon Slayer is retreating. The Dragonologist (specialist in dragons) has given me so many shots, my scaly rear looks like a strainer or a needle cushion but it was effective. At least I'm making more sense of my thoughts.

And since my brain cells are not so gooey and affected, I am going to fulfill my duties to the best of my abilities before I go crazy thinking (and dreaming) about them. Yup, I'm an obsessive type of dragon but one that doesn't take his word lightly.

I told Elizabeth Seckman I would help spread the word about these two books. Last night I kept dreaming I opened and closed the browser on David Powers King's site and saw this book appear over and over again. A subconscious reminder of my word, no doubt. By the way, check David's site for a cool review on The Inventor's Secret.

"Imagine a school in the year 2074 where students don’t read history, but watch it happen around them; where running in gym class isn’t around a track, but up a virtual mountain; and where learning about animals means becoming one through an avatar.
Welcome to Cragbridge Hall, the most advanced and prestigious school in the world. Twin siblings Abby and Derick Cragbridge are excited as new students to use their famed grandfather’s inventions that make Cragbridge Hall so incredible.
But when their grandfather and parents go missing, the twins begin following a trail of clues left by their grandfather. They must find out where their family is, learn who they can trust, and discover what secrets are hidden within Cragbridge Hall.
Abby and Derick soon realize they are caught in a race with a fierce adversary to discover their grandfather’s greatest secret–a dangerous discovery that could alter both history and reality."

Chad Morris grew up wanting to become a professional basketball player or a rock star. (Inspired by Animal from the Muppets, he’s been banging on drums since he was eight years old.) After high school, he wrote and performed sketch comedy while going to college, and eventually he became a teacher and a curriculum writer. He lives in Utah with his wife and five kids. Chad would love to teach at Cragbridge Hall.  Unlike Oscar Cragbridge, however, he hasn’t really invented anything, though his son once sketched out blueprints for a machine that would turn celery into cookies.

"Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction—which means she's the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom's future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.
But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart…misses.
Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king's army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she's not alone. She's armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can't stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?
Kyra is not your typical murderer, and she's certainly no damsel-in-distress—she's the lovable and quick-witted hero of this romantic novel that has all the right ingredients to make teen girls swoon."

Bridget Zinn grew up in Wisconsin. She went to the county fair where she met the love of her life, Barrett Dowell. They got married right before she went in for exploratory surgery which revealed she had colon cancer. They christened that summer the "summer of love" and the two celebrated with several more weddings. Bridget continued to read and write until the day she died. Her last tweet was: "Sunshine and a brand new book. Perfect."
Bridget wanted to make people laugh and hoped readers would enjoy spending time with the characters she created. As a librarian/writer she loved books with strong young women with aspirations. She also felt teens needed more humorous reads. She really wanted to write a book with pockets of warmth and happiness and hoped that her readers' copies would show the watermarks of many bath time reads. BLOG

The Daily Dragon - Issue #6 / Saturday Edition

Due to Internet problems I couldn't bring you the news during the week so we have a hot Saturday Edition once more. Authors take note.

Mary Pax launching party for Boomtown Craze is fixed for March 4th. Those interested in joining sing up.

Ciara Knight is attending several conferences and she will be doing basket giveaways! If you would like to send promo or free books to her, she would include them in the baskets.  There will be romance basket, sci-fi/fantasy/steampunk basket and YA basket. She is also taking Steampunk submissions, short stories for an anthology. For full information about all this go to her page.

Amy Jarecki is doing a Free Query Critic Contest. "Do you have a query you want to polish? Do you need an extra set of eyes? Follow the steps of the contest and enter the drawing for a free query letter critique!" She will choose three winners on February 18th, so if you are interested you better hurry and click here to learn what to do.

Talking about authors seeking for readers, the hot reporter flew beyond the common known territory and found some interesting sites.

For bloggers and readers who are looking for more exposure and spotlight, A Cozy Reader's Corner might be for you.

If you are seeking for more traffic to your blog AND you like doing book reviews, hosting book tours and interviews on your favorite genres, then check Reading Addiction Blog Tours. The link goes to the badge and requirement page so you know what it is all about.

It may also be a good option for those Authors who have no idea how to schedule a book tour (if you don't mind to pay for it.)

For writers of romance romance and more romance in all its features -and who also love bloghops- take a look at Carrie Ann's Blog Hops. She has Lucky in Love Bloghop, Tortured Hero Bloghop, Sweaty Night Bloghop, Fantasy Bloghop, Romance and Your Hero Bloghop. (Yeah, it could be Fifty Shades of Hot.) *Hop lists are over 200 names. I checked some. There are worthy blogs but some links lead to nowhere, so you may want to be cautious when surfing the lists.

I know some of you don't have just writer's blogs, but also gardening, gym, artcraft, religion and so blogs. You may want to check No Ordinary Blog Hop. I am linking you to the rules page because it is the fastest and easiest way for you to know what it is all about. I think the rules are sensible and their points are valid. It's family friendly.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

In my January IWSG's post "Against the Ropes" I  said if you really want to get that glorious triumph that makes your skin crawl with goosebumps, you need to stand up and get your soul to fight when you think your heart cannot take anymore.

Now I ask you if you know what does it take to become Ironman? If you don't, stop by the dragon cave tomorrow. I have a very special post planned, but come with time -and possibly a tissue box for the ladies. I am keeping my word to Elise Fallson but I promise you whatever the time my post takes you tomorrow, you won't leave the Cave in the same state of mind you arrived.

Have a great weekend and I hope to see you tomorrow!

The Daily Dragon - Issue #4

I am here again, your hot reporter, wishing you an excellent productive healthy week. I am going to start with some bloghops announcements. They might not be so new to you but I just ran into them, so they apply as news.

Dani is hosting Express Yourself Meme at Entertaining Interests. In her own words: "It's a goal to help our fellow bloggers get to know one another, to help motivate one another, laugh (or cry) together, in other words - stalk."

Check her site for more information and to sign up! It's scheduled for Mondays, but she says one can post any day if Mondays are just too difficult. She has three different banners and they are all great. This is just one of them.

Nick Wilford is hosting The "Overcoming Adversity" bloghop at his site Scattergun Scribblings. Dates are February 4th and 5th. He is set to create a special anthology to put on sale via Amazon. This is an admirable effort to raise money for the college fund of Nick's stepson, Andrew, who has cerebral palsy.

Theme is: Overcoming adversity for something you believe in. It can be a flash fiction piece, or an episode of your real life. Poetry is accepted as well.

Rules are:

Sign up on the list.
Please keep your entry to 500 words.
Please post on the appointed days.
Keep it family friendly

For more information, please click on the link and visit Nick's site.

Dragons don't use hats, but my Mini-Me does, so *hats off* to Nick and I hope many can join this bloghop and spread the word through the web.

Reminding you (and self) of Annalisa Crawford's Imaginary Friend Bloghop this coming Friday. There is still chance to join and tell about your imaginary friends, if you have one (or one hundred and fifty something) of your childhood (or dragonhoo...err, adulthood).

Father Dragon did the unthinkable and now the A to Z Challenge bagde is actually hanging on the left wall of the Dragon Cave. Still wondering why am I doing this to myself but I will tell you why later.

In anycase, Sign Up List will be available tomorrow. I have never been in this challenge but I have heard they expect more people than a store door in a Black Friday. (I hope they don't push, but just in case I'm sending Pancholin to sign in my behalf.) For more information about the challenge and the lists click here.

HELP WANTED...

to find a post. Yes, dragon did it again and I misplaced a post. I am nearly sure (or probably  just half-way sure) that I saw it in Shannon's The Warrior Muse but memories are all foggy, and when I went back there, I couldn't find it.

Anyway, it was a post about how the heck one could include the share little buttons on the blog. You know, the +g, twitter, facebook, TNT, CBS, my pretty face stuff. I don't even remember all the buttons but they were more than 5... and square. As a matter of fact, I am not sure what half of them are for, but my dwarf media advisor (Tassin) says we should have them, at least to pretend we actually know what we're doing so...

Any information on the matter will be appreciated and rewarded with dwarf hugs and a table dance by Mini-Me.

I found this ad, and I'm including it just so you note people can come to agreements with red dragons but clarify that I'm not the one referred here.

Any other news you have and want to share, I'll be happy to include it in the next Issue or send me a mail.... or smoke signals if you know the Fire Dragon Code, the MX9000 version, not the 15B.C. That's outdated.

Daily Dragon - Issue # 3

This hot reporter was hunting for knowledge besides news. Bad news is; my minions and I couldn't find an online public library I could access to (which is closing me the door to the Progressive Book Club. Sorry Mike.)

The good news is: I did find some free knowledge. I have seen "Creative Writing" mentioned more than once in my journey to become a writer. As usual, I had no idea what that was until I ran into The Crafty Writer and its Creative Writing Course -with several exercises. It is short and it is for free. I bring you the contents and their links, in case you may find something interesting as well.

Contents:
Releasing your Creativity
How to Write a Short Story
Writing from a Point of View
Bringing your Writing to Life
Writing Characters
Writing Dialogue
Poetry: How to Write Poems
Markets, Competitions and Opportunities

February On-Line Workshops

There are other courses that might interest you as well, although these are not for free. They are hosted by LOW Country Romance Writers. I already took one with them last year and it was great. Price: $16 dollars (each).

1. The Character's Arc, presented by Sue Viders and Becky Martinez.
Dates: Feb 4-17

2. Plotting a Romance Series, presented by Misty Evans.
Dates: Feb 1-15

3. How to Promote your book online, presented by Karen MacMurray
Dates: Feb 1-28

4. Creating Great Villains, presented by Rayne Hall
Dates: Feb 1-28

You can register for online classes through February 1.

Misha Gericke is hosting January's Paying Forward Award. She is looking for suggestions for a better name and she is also inviting the blogger community to submit their vote on their favorite nominee. By the way, thank you to those who nominated me. It's an honor to be there after barely two months I opened the Dragon Cave to the public. My scaly self already feels like a winner among such great company. Prizes are awesome and you will find familiar names there I am sure we all will be glad to support.

Stephen Tremp wants to remind you about the Reintroduce Myself Blogfest this coming Monday. We are already seventy six and he would like to hit the one hundred mark. It won't take you much time as he is setting it to one hundred words limit, so it is not time consuming. Join us, it will be fun!

Daily Dragon - Issue #2 / Evening News

Here I am with you again, your hot Reporter bringing some flaming news I caught in my daily hunting.

For the stargazers like me, I bring you the Lunar Lovin Hop hosted by Mina Lobo at her site Some Dark Romantic. What to do?
1. Sign up on the list at her site.
2. Use the badge on your blog sidebar and Tweet or whatever to spread the word about the hop.
3. Take a picture of the full moon on January 27 and
4. Post it on your blog on the 28th
5. Go check others' pics.

Really easy and we can see moons from many parts of the world. Well actually same moon but from different points of view, right?

Nothing compares to the first impression but for writers, editions, rewrites and re-introductions are allowed. If you have not introduced yourself properly to the blogger community or if you would like to re-introduce yourself, go check the Re-Introduce Myself Blogfest at Mark Koopman's or Stephen Trent's sites.

Not all people have an imaginary friend. There are some, however, who have more than one. That's my case. I got to hit 23 imaginary friends in my early years. Annalisa Crawford is doing her first bloghop and inviting us to talk about our imaginary friends. Check her site for details and sign up.

There will be a prize! (Dragon loves prizes and make his treasure grow.)

I signed to them all. In Mexico we call "ajonjoli de todos los moles" to the one person who wants to be in all parties. (The closest translation could be "spice of all sauces"). Well, just clarifying here dragon is in no way an "ajonjoli de todos moles". You can see that, right?

I found Teaser Tuesday in Tamara's One Magic Bean Buyer and I thought it was cool. Should be Reading hosted by Miz Biz. If you would like to play, just grab the book you're currently reading, open to a random page, share 2 teaser sentences from somewhere in the page. Make sure not to include spoilers. Share the title and the author too, so other TT participants can add the book to their TBR pile. (Reminder to self: Ask Tamara what a TBR pile is.)

So here it is mine:

"This left one option: to enter a higher level of trance. Third-level trances were sufficient for large-scale magic under favourable conditions. To rise to fourth level was dangerous, and only ever practised in the safe presence of other qualified magicians. She would be vulnerable during the act, and weakened for a long time afterwards. Merida resolved to risk it."

The book is Storm Dancer by Rayne Hall. I just started reading it yesterday and it totally captured my attention from the first pages.

And talking about Storm Dancer, I am pleased to announce that Dahoud, the protagonist of Storm Dancer has accepted to be my next guest at Under the Fireworks with Father Dragon. I still don't know the exact date of the next airing of the show. I will let you know in advance so you may join us and meet this mysterious character and his story.

I am also very pleased to share with you the trailer for Storm Dancer.

News flash: There will be a promotion in relation with the new release of this trailer starting tomorrow! Check here to learn more and don't miss it.

The greatest news of all, the Dragon Cave has reached the amazing amount of... *drumroll*... no less than twenty, TWENTY! followers. I know people like David Powers King (822 followers) and Alex J. Cavanaugh (1736 followers) are followed by half the world, but twenty is a crowd to me. So I am allowing myself a happy dance and a cheering choreography from the Dwarf Cheering Team. Go me!

Daily Dragon - Issue No. 1

I decided to include a section of news called Daily Dragon. It won't come daily but it sounded better than Any Other Day Hot News.

For those who like reading, M.L. Swift is organizing a Book Club. You are still on time to sign up. The first meeting will take place on January 16th. I think it is a wonderful idea. Reading is a pleasure but it is a joy when you do it in a group and you get the chance to comment on what you are reading.

I started reading in the mighty and pleasant company of my grandfather. That was my first Book Club and I do cherish those memories and all the things I learned from discussing books with him.

The worst of monsters I can take is the type of Monsters, Inc. But for all of those out there who love gritty horror, I bring you two good options by Craig McGray.

The Somnibus Book I (Free Download January 10th and 11th) and This Little Piggy for permanent FREE download.

I had already told you about On-line course the Word Loss Diet of Rayne Hall in my post Books and On-line courses. Well, Rayne decided to make a book of her on-line seminar and it is already available for you on Amazon, Kobo, and Smashwords.  I do highly recommend it.

Book Description:
"Tighten and tone your writing style and use simple tricks to slim down your manuscript. Shed thousands of words without changing the plot.
Strip away the word fat and reveal the muscle of your unique author voice.
The book is short but potent.
It is perfect for:
- Self editing before you submit your book to agents and publishers, or before self-publishing.
- Understanding why your stories get rejected, or why so few readers buy your book after downloading the sample chapters.
- Taking your writing craft skills to the next level.
- Polishing your writing style for the move from amateur to professional.
The book is based on Rayne Hall's popular class of the same title which has helped many writers shed word weight and develop a leaner, stronger writing style. Some authors say the class was the best investment they ever made. Now you can study the techniques in book form at your own pace."

It is official now. The book Jewels of the Sky has become international. The Dragon Cave in Mexico City has a paperback copy and it will take its place in the Dragon Ancient Library, started by my grandfather: Father Dragon "The Great" back in... Well, back then.

Thank you Catherine, this adventure has been a pleasure.

Last but not least, my word of honor is my greatest treasure. I did promise a Birthday Card with the Dwarves in Cheer Leaders outfits but I couldn't deliver on time because I was visiting far far FAR AWAY and Internet and time were scarce. Upon arrival, I found myself drown in urgent matters, so this had to wait for a few more days.  It arrives 10 days late but better late than never. A dragon is not more worthy than the value of its word, so Jeff, here they are, Sessin, Milin, Pancholin and Tassin, hairy legs and all. This might not be Las Vegas show but they practiced a lot!

(If anyone is interested in hiring them to cheer you up in your sad days, contact their Manager; Father Dragon at 01 800 -HAPPY DWARVES- or better contact me by mail, hahaha.)

PROMISED BIRTHDAY CARD
